Winners at the 2024 SBC Awards North America

EPIC win prestigious player protection award

EPIC Risk Management’s commitment to reducing gambling harm in the nascent United States market has been recognized in style after winning the ‘Player Protection Service Provider of the Year’ award at the SBC Awards North America.

In becoming the first ever winners of the welcome accolade at a ceremony hosted at Manhattan’s impressive Pier Sixty events venue, EPIC were deemed by the judging panel to have made the biggest impression in the vital area of player protection within the rapidly-growing American market. We were selected ahead of some stellar fellow nominees in the form of BetBlocker, Mindway AI and the Responsible Gaming Council, who are all making their own invaluable contributions to a safer gambling arena.

Among the biggest projects being undertaken by EPIC is the roll-out of a major program in partnership with the elite NCAA college sports institution, which has begun within the past year and is seeing the company visit student athletes and staff at every college within their jurisdiction, delivering a series of gambling harm awareness workshops for the attention of the next generation of potential Major League stars.

Speaking to SBC’s TV production crew after receiving the Player Protection Service Provider of the Year accolade, CEO Paul Buck expressed his pride at the company’s achievements as he explained:

“It feels amazing to win. It’s the first time that this awards ceremony has had a category for player protection, so to be the inaugural winners is something that everybody at EPIC will be very proud of.

“At these awards, you’ve got all the operators, all the affiliates and also a growing number of player protection people in there too, so for us, this is the awards event of the year. We’re absolutely delighted.“

The victory caps a fine week for the organization in both New York and New Jersey, where our message was given centre stage attention across a number of marquee events.

The week started with EPIC as Premium Partner of SBC’s Player Protection Symposium at Midtown Loft and Terrace in New York, where a capacity audience heard from CEO Paul Buck, program facilitator Greg Weber and EPIC Restart Foundation trustee Rebecca Jones as part of a discussion panel on ‘The voice of the player’, which explained where the industry need to do more to support vulnerable players.

Buck was then back on stage during SBC Summit North America at Meadowlands Exposition Center in New Jersey, speaking on a further panel looking at workable player protection solutions for operators, with the company also receiving heavy footfall at our stand within the adjacent exhibition hall, to help explain our purpose to an influential group of attendees who can help to affect the awareness we’re seeking to share with the widest possible audience.
