EPIC Risk Management will be attending Soccerex Americas 2022 Conference, beginning today on March 15th at Miami Beach Convention Center and running in partnership with Concacaf, US Soccer Federation, Major League Soccer, LaLiga and more.

Soccerex connects and brings together the global football industry to network in unique commercial and business environments to enable further growth of the game.

Between 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM (US time), the globally leading gambling harm minimization consultancy will host a panel discussion titled ‘Protect Your Player – Protect Your Bottom Line’, moderated by Michael V. Huber and involving the following panellists:

– John Millington, EPIC Risk Management’s director of sports partnerships

– Kiersten Klekner-Alt, assistant athletic director at Youngstown State University

– Rachael Jankowsky, manager of player advisory and support services at Chicago Fire FC

– Howard Webb, general manager of video assistant referee operations for MLS’ Professional Referee Organization, and former English Premier League and FIFA international referee

– Caryl Banks, manager of the Professional Athletes Foundation, NFLPA

Mitigating the risk for your prized assets makes sound business sense in any industry. Meanwhile in elite sports, a proactive approach to player welfare and protecting against reputational risk could prove to be one of the best business decisions you can make.

A rounded approach to player welfare and duty of care aims to equip players with the tools to navigate a high-pressured career, but does the growing issue of problem gambling feature in these types of considerations? If not, why not?

As the proliferation of sports wagering in the US continues to gather pace, EPIC Risk Management’s Soccerex Americas panel will pose the question: “What steps should organizations and teams take to mitigate against the growing risks of problem gambling to their players, and organizations?”, hoping to establish why this makes sound business sense in the ever-changing dynamic that is elite sport in 2022.
