EPIC Risk Management applauds EFL ‘Do One Thing’ Campaign

EPIC Risk Management supports the English Football League (EFL) and its Clubs as they come together with charity partner, Mind, to collectively mark World Mental Health Day (Saturday, October 10th) this year.

With Mind’s latest research revealing that more than 60% of adults and over two-thirds of young people (68%) felt their mental health deteriorated during the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, encouraging conversations around our mental health and that of others has never been more important.

Mind’s ‘do one thing’ campaign aims to inspire people to make one small change or take one action to look after their mental health. As part of the campaign, EFL Clubs will play their part and ‘do one thing’ to say thank you to someone deserving within their local communities.

“It’s fantastic to see the EFL and the clubs coming together on such an important topic,” said EPIC Risk Management’s Head of Sports Partnerships and Brand, Mike Holinski. “World Mental Health Day provides the opportunity to continue to raise awareness and can be a powerful tool to encourage people to speak out.

“The topic of mental health is an essential part of our gambling awareness programme we deliver across the EFL. We raise awareness and educate players about the negative impact out of control gambling can cause to their mental health. Encouraging those who might be struggling not to suffer in silence and signposting them to the support.”

Anyone can get involved in the campaign by sharing their ‘one thing’ of advice or activities across social media, so we’ve asked our Chief Executive, Paul Buck on what his one piece of advice would be to promote the issue of mental health in 2020;

EPIC Risk Management CEO, Paul Buck’s ‘Do One Thing’: “It’s OK not to be OK. It’s a strength to speak out if you are feeling down, anxious, or maybe just not quite right. Mental health affects 1 in 4 people so someone around you is probably feeling the same.”

At EPIC we provide impactful and proven awareness, education, and risk management programmes for elite professional athletes, management teams, clubs, and governing bodies.

We make athletes aware of the potentially destructive financial implications and health issues that out-of-control gambling can cause. The work we do enables athletes to make well-informed decisions; reducing distraction and maximising performance.

To date, we have delivered successful gambling awareness and education programmes across the Rugby Players Association, Rugby Players Ireland, Professional Cricket Association, Rugby Football League, the English Football League, Manchester City FC and Chelsea FC. We’ve covered subjects including gambling-related harm, betting integrity, where and how to access help, and how to spot the signs of potentially problematic gambling behaviour.
