Winners at the 2023 VIXIO and Barclays Entrepreneur Awards

Double award success for EPIC

There was a double celebration for EPIC at a brace of London-based award ceremonies, as the globally-leading gambling harm prevention consultancy came away with accolades from both the Barclays Entrepreneur Awards and the VIXIO GamblingCompliance Global Regulatory Awards.

There was a company-wide success at the former, where EPIC were presented with a ‘highly commended’ award in the International Expansion category, whilst Dan Spencer, EPIC’s director of safer gambling, achieved personal recognition at the VIXIO event, where he was named winner of the Compliance Rising Star Special Award.

The awards were an acknowledgment of the company’s continued global growth in its tenth anniversary year, with new engagement with international gambling operators and leading sports competitions complementing an already stellar portfolio of clients for whom EPIC provide a range of safer gambling provisions, including education, training and consultancy.

Spencer continues to play an ever-increasing role in the prominence of such programmes, and is becoming a renowned figure on speaking circuits in relation to the concept of safer gambling, appearing on conference panels, webinars, podcasts and media appearances to lead the discussion on minimising gambling-related harm.

EPIC CEO Paul Buck was pleased with a rewarding evening for the organisation, explaining:

“It is always nice to be recognised as an organisation for the hard work we do daily to be innovative in the prevention of gambling harm.

“We thank Barclays for recognising our global expansion and VIXIO for the recognition of Dan, who leads our ever-widening safer gambling efforts.

“This is a nice way to celebrate our first ten years as an organisation and the plans we have to further our mission in the years to come.”

Reflecting on the personal success he enjoyed on the night, Spencer added:

“I’m extremely grateful for the award and want to extend both my sincere thanks and credit to the wider EPIC team and our clients who have supported this nomination.

“This award is a nice way to reflect back on the four years of work I’ve contributed towards in this sector, and how far we’ve come with the safer gambling message in that time.

“It’s a significant win for this award to be presented outside the gambling industry and instead be received by someone like myself in the prevention sector.”

The nature of the work undertaken by EPIC in the safer gambling space is showcased via the company’s website at epicriskmanagement.com and the awards come during a period of celebration for the company, which is currently marking ten years of gambling harm prevention activities, having been founded by Paul Buck in 2013.

EPIC has now worked in 28 countries and its mission to take the problem out of gambling has led to work in partnerships with leading organisations worldwide in sectors deemed as the most at-risk of potential gambling harm such as professional sport, education, the armed forces and the gambling industry itself.
