Gambling harm prevention topics high on Wednesday’s SBC Summit Americas agenda

Four members of the EPIC Global Solutions team will play a key role in setting the agenda for gambling harm prevention discussions during Wednesday’s Player Protection Symposium track at SBC Summit Americas in Fort Lauderdale.
SBC’s flagship event in the US moves south to the Florida venue for the first time this week, with the first day of panel discussions – all of which in the Player Protection Symposium are sponsored by our organization – providing ample scope for the EPIC representatives to bring responsible gaming (RG) awareness to the fore.
First on stage in Palm Room Level 2 on Wednesday May 14 is Craig Cornforth, senior business development director, who joins the panel for ‘Financial risk checks – an essential tool for player safety or the black market’s new best friend?’. The 11am-11.45am debate will see him joined by Declan Raines, Senior Director – US Gaming, TransUnion, and Rebekah Jackson, Director of Gaming, GBG for a talk moderated by regulation and RG expert Martin Lycka.
Stating the importance of education for players in choosing a regulated operator rather than a black market alternative and advising operators to consider their role in the media narrative and creating user interfaces that minimize the impact of risk checks, he and his fellow panelists will be taking an in-depth look at how to influence consumer behavior towards making the safer choice.
The opening discussion will immediately be followed by ‘From Obligation to Opportunity: Driving Success Through Responsible Gambling’ from 11.45am-12.30pm, in which our CEO, Paul Buck, will drive home the message that RG is an industry asset, not just a regulatory obligation, and highlight examples of where we’ve helped this to become a successful policy for partners throughout the Americas.
Paul’s session will be moderated by Charmaine Hogan of Playtech, with Martin Lycka switching to a panelist position alongside Dr. Mary Donohue, CEO & Founder, The Digital Wellness Center; Dr. Jennifer Shatley, Executive Director, Responsible Online Gaming Association; and Sarah Brennan, Senior Director, Compliance, BetMGM.
Later in the day, the EPIC representatives return from 2.45pm-3.15pm as Teresa Fiore takes on a moderator role for the ‘Trusted Voices, Shared Goals: A Collaborative Approach to Underage Gambling Prevention’ session.
Accompanied by spouses Randy Livingston and Anita Ondine Smith – who can attest to their own experiences of Randy’s problem gambling – and Marlene Warner, CEO of Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health, she will be questioning the panel on how collaboration can create meaningful education opportunities that prepare parents, coaches and mentors to engage in impactful conversations with young people – much like the premise of the Know Your Play platform that we have recently launched in conjunction with ROGA.
Daniel Spencer, EPIC’s principal consultant, will be part of the last panel of the day – ‘RG Tech: Potential Game Changers’ – from 4pm-4.45pm.
Sharing his insight alongside Adam Warrington, Vice President, Responsible Gaming, Underdog Sports; Phil Sherwood, Senior Director of Responsible Gaming, PrizePicks; Cory Fox, SVP Public Policy & Sustainability, FanDuel; and Anthony D’Angelo, Sr Manager Responsible Gaming, Fanatics Betting & Gaming, with moderation from Kindbridge’s Daniel Umfleet, high on the agenda will be next-gen digital solutions for RG.
The importance of AI, blockchain and data analytics driving industry-wide innovation is also likely to be discussed as they assess how US operators can leverage technology for better player protection.
