EPIC accompanies world leaders at the UN General Assembly with Better Gambling Forum
Global attention has been focused on the start of the UN General Assembly in New York this week, with EPIC Global Solutions invited to share perspective on worldwide impact of gambling harm prevention.
Founder and CEO Paul Buck was called to share his perspective in support of the proposed Responsible Gambling Triple-P (RG3P) Framework during the Better Gambling Forum at the Hard Rock Hotel in Manhattan; an initiative of the Brain Capital Alliance at the UN Brain Economy Summit that runs parallel to the General Assembly.
An influential audience spanning diverse sectors across eleven countries heard him argue that prevention deserves equal, if not greater, priority than the treatment of gambling harm. He highlighted the cultural, ethical, and economic imperatives behind this shift and called for individuals with lived experience of gambling harm to play a central role in shaping global gambling policy. He underscored his message by describing gambling as a “very illogical addiction.”
During an interactive discussion, Buck and his fellow panelists were asked to pitch their views on a range of RG3P pillar topics including ‘Education, Informed Choice & Harm Prevention’ and ‘Risk Detection & Intervention’, which were then discussed by policy makers and influencers from around the world in collaborative round-table discussions, with the expert input aimed at shaping what the RG3P framework should ultimately entail.
EPIC’s SVP North America, Teresa Fiore – who has just been named as part of this year’s Game Masters Top 100 by US iGaming Hub for her influence in the online gambling space – was involved in the round table conversation and reflected on what she felt was ‘a real step forward’, given the level of influence in the room.
“With representatives from 11 countries and a diverse group of stakeholders in the room, it was an exciting event in New York City as global leaders came together to tackle some of the most pressing issues of our time,” she explained.
“For me, it felt like a real step forward in bringing problem gambling and related harms onto the global stage, creating momentum toward international standards and meaningful collaboration.”
Further refinement of the RG3P principles will continue in the event’s aftermath, focusing on global approaches to key pillars relating to gambling issues.
EPIC’s knowledge of global gambling harm prevention is in increasing demand. Earlier this year, Principal Consultant Dan Spencer also addressed worldwide policy makers and influencers during June’s G7 Canada Brain Economy Summit – tied to the G7 Summit of world leaders in Calgary – where he called for consistent cross-sector collaboration during a debate on whole-system approaches to mitigating harm in high-risk sectors.
